HOW DO I CHOOSE A WASHING MACHINE?

Posted by

For some people the job of washing clothes ranging from soaking, rubbing, rinsing, squeezing to drying is a work that is quite draining and time consuming, especially if there are stains on clothes that are difficult to remove. That's the story of the past, at this time washing work can be done more relaxed and enjoyable with the washing machine. For those who are currently considering using a washing machine, before choosing the desired product, it is better to first know the type of washing machine that is available in the market today so that it can adjust to the needs and differences in existing funds.
At this time there are three types of washing machines in the market, namely twin tube or two tubes, top loading and front loading. The work processes of each washing machine and its advantages and disadvantages are as follows:

I. Twin tube washing machine

As the name implies, in this washing machine there are two tubes that line in a vertical position (upright), the two tubes are:
The first tube is a washing / rinse tube which functions to carry out the washing and rinsing process. In this washing tube / rinse at the bottom there is an equipment called a pulsator, which is driven by an electric motor. The washing or rinsing process occurs because at the time the washing / rinse tube contains laundry, water and detergent, then the pulsator is rotated by an electric motor so that it will cause a whirlpool capable of carrying all the rotating laundry with water in the washing / rinse tube. This situation produces washing power because as if the laundry is like being washed, especially if the pulsator rotation is set in a two-way / back-and-forth position, the washing power gets stronger because each changes the direction of rotation as it is jerked.
The second tube is called a dryer tube to dry clothes that have been washed in a washing / rinse tube which is a hollow tube that is rotated by an electric motor. The drying process occurs because when the dryer tube contains laundry and is rotated by an electric motor at high speed (can reach 1,200 rpm) it will cause a centrifugal force which can suppress the washing on the wall of the dryer tube and throw water in the laundry out through the holes on the dryer tube.
Because the rotation speed of the pulsator and dryer is not the same, each of them is driven by an electric motor and its own transmission system, so the washing machine of this type has two electric motors.
This washing machine is also equipped with a control panel consisting of:
  • Laundry timer, which is the equipment used to regulate the time the washing / rinsing process will take place.
  • Wash action knop, serves to adjust the rotation of the pulsator, can work with one-way rotation or two-way / back and round. In general, one-way rotation is used for a mild washing process / not too dirty, while two-way / alternating rounds are used for heavy / dirty laundry.
  • Knop drain, serves to remove water from the washing tube / rinse.
  • Dryer timer, which is the equipment used to regulate the drying process will take place.
Washing machines are always equipped with channels to drain clean water that will be used in the washing process and a hose that serves to drain wastewater that is discharged / discharged from the washing machine.
The washing process for twin tube washing machines is done as follows:
  1. Set the drain knob in the closing position, open the faucet so that clean water flows into the washing / rinsing tube. Fill the water according to the needs or in accordance with the user guide, then mix the detergent into clean water in the tube wash / rinse or fill in the space provided according to the needs or in accordance with the user guide.
  2. Enter the clothes that will be washed into the washing / rinsing tube, do not put clothes over the washing machine capacity, because it can cause damage due to the washing machine working too hard. In addition, the working power of the washing machine becomes less effective so that the work results are not optimal.
  3. Connect the washing machine socket to the power source, adjust the pulsator rotation direction according to the condition of the clothes to be washed (turn in the same direction or back and forth), then set the wash / rinse timer according to your needs or in accordance with the user guide.
  4. If the washing time has been reached, the timer will turn off the pulsator's work so that the washing process stops.
  5. Set the drain knob in the opening position so that detergent water in the washing / rinse tube will flow out through the drain hose.
  6. Move the laundry from the washing tube / rinse to the dryer (dryer), close the dryer tube, and set the dryer timer according to the needs or in accordance with the user guide so that the initial drying process will take place. Dryer tube rotation at work time is quite high, so that if the dryer is left unprotected it can harm the user, therefore as a safety plant install a switch that will regulate so that the dryer cannot operate if the dryer tube cap is open.
  7. While waiting for the initial drying process, rearrange the drain knob to close and fill the washing tube / rinse with water to the specified limit.
  8. If the initial drying time has been reached, the timer will turn off the drying process.
  9. Open the dryer tube lid, relocate the laundry to wash / rinse.
  10. Rearrange the wash / rinse timer according to the needs or in accordance with the user guide so that the rinsing process will take place. During this rinsing process the water can be completely discharged by opening the drain knob to be replaced with new water, or the clean water is allowed to keep flowing because the washing tube / rinse has an overflow hole so that excess water will come out of the washing machine through the discharge hose.
  11. If the rinsing time has been reached, the timer will turn off the rinsing process.
  12. Move the laundry again into the dryer tube, close the dryer tube again, set the dryer timer according to the needs or in accordance with the user guide, and let the final drying process take place.
  13. If the final drying time has been reached, the timer will turn off the drying process.
  14. Reopen the dryer tube lid and remove the cucician to dry it to dry completely.
The disadvantages of twin tube washing machines are:
  • There is still a lot of need for human intervention (not automatic) such as scanning laundry from the washing tube / rinse it to the dryer tube and vice versa.
  • Because the washing and rinsing process occurs by expelling laundry in water, clothing with certain materials can change shape. For example, a cotton shirt with a wide sleeve or often buttoning the shirt off.
The advantages of twin tube washing machines are:
  • Can do soaking and preliminary washing on very dirty clothing parts such as neck, armpits and ends of sleeves, buttocks and feet of pants etc. manually, the others just leave it to the washing machine.
  • Can add laundry during the washing process.
  • Allocation of washing, flushing and drying time is easily arranged according to the conditions of the laundry.
  • If there is damage to one of the electric motors, the washing machine can still be used. For example, the electric motor which drives the pulsator is damaged so the dryer can still be used and vice versa.
  • The price of this type of washing machine is quite affordable.
II. Top loading washing machine

This is a misguided term that is already popular in our country. If it means that the twin tub is actually also a type of top loading, just because the washing machine has one tube, to distinguish it is given a top loading name (why doesn't the tube just stop?).
The basic concept of this top loading washing machine is to combine the washing / rinse tube and dryer tube on the twin tube washing machine into one, so there is no need to move the laundry from the washing tube / rinse the dryer and vice versa. Thus, in this type of washing machine the tube is only one physical form, such as a drying tube in a twin tube washing machine, which is a hollow tube but the surface is uneven because there are protrusions in several places, and the dimensions are also larger because all processes start washing, flushing and drying will take place in this tube. Tube material is generally stainless steel and the same as in the twin tube type washing machine on the bottom of the tube there is a pulsator, where the tube and pulsator is driven by an electric motor.
Just like in twin tube washing machines, the washing or flushing process occurs because when the pulsator is rotated by an electric motor, it will cause a whirlpool that is capable of carrying all the rotating laundry with the water in the tube. Even in this top loading type washing machine the tube also rotates with the direction of rotation opposite to the direction of rotation of the pulsator which it says can increase the effectiveness of washing.
Likewise the drying process occurs after detergent / rinse water is removed, the drying tube containing the laundry is rotated by an electric motor at high speed (can reach 1,200 rpm) will cause a centrifugal force which can suppress the washing on the drying tube wall and throw water in the laundry exit through the holes in the dryer tube.
The control panel on the top loading washing machine is very different from the control panel in the twin tube washing machine. All work processes start water drainage, detergent administration, washing, disposal of used laundry water, initial drying, drainage, rinsing, use of softener and final drying are all automatically regulated by both semi-computerized and full computerize washing machines. In the beginning, the philosophy of changing the twin tube washer control panel to the top loading washing machine was combining the knobs on the twin tube washer control panel into one tool, so that before we operate we need to set the washing time, initial drying time, rinsing time and drying time end. But in a more modern top loading washing machine it has been dispensed and replaced with a choice of washing process in accordance with the material of the laundry / laundry that will be washed or the level of the washing process starts from mild, moderate, normal, heavy and very heavy.
Thus the way to use this washing machine becomes very easy and very simple, namely:
  1. Enter the laundry in the washing machine.
  2. Fill detergent and softener, as needed.
  3. Enter the electrical outlet and open the water tap.
  4. Choose a washing program.
  5. Press the start knob so that the washing machine starts the work process.
And ...... already, leave the washing machine because all the washing processes will take place without requiring our intervention, until later if the washing process is finished we just take the laundry to dry. But at the time of the washing process, the washing machine door cannot be opened immediately, it must be waited a few minutes before it can be opened (about 2 to 3 minutes).
The disadvantages of top loading washing machines are:
  • The price of this type of washing machine is more expensive than the twin tube type.
  • As in the twin tube washing machine, the washing and flushing process occurs by turning the laundry in the water, so that the clothes with certain materials can change shape. For example, a cotton shirt with a wide sleeve or often buttoning the shirt off.
  • If the washing process has begun it cannot add laundry because the washing machine door cannot be opened.
The advantages of top loading washing machines are:
  • Can do soaking and preliminary washing on very dirty clothing parts such as neck, armpits and ends of sleeves, buttocks and feet of pants etc. other new ones leave it to the washing machine, before the washing machine is "on" right and "start".
The whole washing process is automatically regulated by the washing machine, does not require human intervention anymore except drying, so that it can be left to do other work.
III. Front loading washing machine

The fundamental difference in front loading washing machines with twin tube and front loading washing machines is:
- The position of the tube in the front loading washing machine is horizontal, with a vertical rotation direction.
- There is only one tube, which is a stainless steel tube that has holes as in a top loading type washing machine, which has a bulge in several places.
- The tube is not equipped with a pulsator.
The washing power of this type of washing machine is produced due to washing that is wet with detergent water carried by the tube vertically. Because the speed of rotation of the tube during the washing process is not designed too quickly, then when the position of the laundry reaches the peak of the rotation, the laundry will fall into the bottom of the tube causing effects such as crushed, especially the direction of rotation of the tube is always changing, so the effectiveness of rolling this laundry becomes more intensive.
When the washing / grinding process has been completed, detergent water is removed and replaced with clean water to make the rinsing process.
Likewise the drying process occurs after detergent / rinse water is removed and the drying tube containing laundry and rotated by an electric motor at high speed (can reach 1,200 rpm) will cause the emergence of centrifugal force which can suppress the washing on the drying tube wall and throw water in the laundry it comes out through the holes in the dryer tube.
The control panel on the front washer is similar to the control panel on the front loading washing machine, because all work processes start water drainage, detergent administration, washing, disposal of used wash water, initial drying, rinsing, rinsing, using all softeners and final drying Automatically regulated by a semi-computerized washing machine or full computerize. It is only necessary to make the choice of the washing process in accordance with the material of the laundry / laundry to be washed or the level of work of the washing process starting from mild, moderate, normal to heavy and very heavy. Even in today's modern washing machines, if such washing rates are considered lacking, there are still options to increase washing time, rinsing time and washing by regulating the temperature of the water used in the washing process. Likewise the provision of detergent and softener has been automatically regulated by a washing machine that is adjusted to the weight of the laundry to be done.
How to use this washing machine is very easy and very simple, namely:
  1. Enter the laundry in the washing machine.
  2. Check the supply of detergent and softener, plus if less.
  3. Enter the electrical outlet and open the water tap.
  4. "On" is the washing machine then select the washing program.
There is even a machine equipped with a "time delay" program with several options, namely: 3 hours, 6 hours and 9 hours. This means that if the program has chosen a 9-hour time delay, then the initial washing process will be arranged so that the washing process will be completed in the next 9 hours, so if the adjustment is done at 9:00 pm then left to sleep, then the next day at 6:00 am the washing process has been finished so it is ready for drying .
The disadvantages of washing machine type front loading are:
  • The price of this type of washing machine is more expensive than the other two washing machines.
  • If the washing process has begun it cannot add laundry because the washing machine door cannot be opened.
  • When entering and removing the laundry must be bent.
The advantages of top loading washing machines are:
  • The process of washing / rinsing by washing the washing is believed to be more effective than the way to destroy laundry in detergent / clean water.
  • The possibility of a change of shape in clothing with certain materials, such as shirts with cotton sleeves wide or often buttons to be loose can be reduced.
  • The whole washing process is automatically regulated by the washing machine, does not require human intervention anymore except drying, so that it can be left to do other work.
So the discussion about washing machines that we can convey, hopefully can provide a discourse for those of you who need it, so that they can choose according to their needs. Because the Javanese say "Ono rego, ono rupo" means that if we choose the sophisticated one, the price will be expensive, otherwise if our funds are limited, just choose a simple one.
